The full force of Indian Ocean swells hits the islands off the west coast of Sumatra - Nias and the Mentawai region are well known, but numerous reefs and islands have similar exposure and awesome surf. All the best spots can be accessed by live-aboard boats, and a larger, long-range boat will open up the biggest range of possibilities. Ideally, the live-aboard boat is accompanied by a smaller speedboat, to check out breaks quickly and access those in shallower water.

| Barrenjoey is an Australian registered, 70ft ketch-rigged, steel motor-sailor, built to Lloyds of London specifications. Accommodation, all air-conditioned, is in two, private double cabins, plus a larger four-bunk cabin with its own TV and DVD player. Facilities include hot and cold fresh water shower, and an additional shower outside. The spacious, cool, air-conditioned saloon seats eight people and has a comprehensive library, TV, video, DVD, and a drinks fridge at hand. |

Charter packages include a healthy selection of tasty Asian and Western meals, snacks, 30 cases of beer, soft drinks and bottled water. Barrenjoey is serviced by a 7.3m aluminium support boat powered by two 140 Hp Suzuki 4 stroke outboards, capable of a least 20 knots. It has plenty of room for 10 surfers and their equipment and is especially useful for checking out the myriad waves amongst all the nooks and crannies of the archipelago. The support boat can also be used for diving trips and game fishing, and for emergency transport of passengers if need be. A Yamaha jet ski is available for tow-surfing and for fun (an extra charge applies.) |

All clients
are met personally at Padang Airport and transported by private
van directly to the boat. Most trips go first to islands in the
Mentawai group, then set the itinerary from there depending on the
conditions, the wishes of the group and the advice of the skipper,
who has extensive experience with the currents, swells, tides and
winds. At the end of the trip, clients are transferred
directly from the boat to the airport. Atoll Travel packages on

to Padang with Singapore Airlines, Garuda or Malaysian Ailines,
all transfers, 11 nights accommodation on board, all meals, surf
