Bohemian
North Sumatra

Explore remote North Sumatran waters, cruising in comfort and surfing uncrowded perfection, from the famous Lagundri right and the powerful Asu barrel to un-named Banyak breaks. Skipper Steve Bridge takes just six surfers into tropical holiday paradise with great food, cool drinks and time out for fishing, snorkeling and relaxing.

North Sumatra Surf

Powerful Indian Ocean swells make for great waves all along the exposed Indonesian archipelago. Once-remote islands like Nias and the Mentawais are now famous surf destinations. Lesser known, less accessible breaks off Sumatra's north can still be reached on a live-aboard charter boat.

The surf season runs from March to mid-October, when winds are from the east and southeast - a skipper who knows the area can reliably find a break with perfect offshore conditions.

About Bohemian

Bohemian is a fully air-conditioned 48-ft aluminium catamaran. It is purpose-built for Indonesian surf charters by skipper Steve Bridge, based on his years of experience surfing and cruising in tropical waters. Flared hulls and lots of headroom make it spacious, comfortable and stable.

With only three private, twin-berth cabins and just six surfers on board, Bohemian is never crowded. The light and airy saloon has ample seating, TV, VCD, and stereo. Generators and batteries provide power 24 hours a day.

The on-board chef cooks a scrumptious variety of Thai and Western dishes and deserts, guaranteed to satisfy the hungriest surfers. She has been in charge of the galley for three years, and makes tasty, healthy meals using local and imported ingredients, as well as the fish we catch along the way.

Bohemian is fully equipped for long range surf charters with two Yanmar diesel engines, all modern navigational and safety equipment, satellite phone and water desalinator.

Bohemian Tour Packages

Holiday tour packages usually include flights via Singapore and Medan to Sibolga, on Sumatra's north-west coast. Sibolga is the closest port to Nias and the Banyak islands, and allows Bohemian to get to the North Sumatra surf much sooner than boats from Padang.

Generally, guests arrive in Medan on Sunday, where they're met by a Bohemian representative and transferred to the domestic terminal for the flight to Sibolga. (Surboards are carried by truck from Medan to the port at Sibolga and will be ready for the boat's departure). Guests are met at Sibolga airport and transferred directly to the port. Bohemian departs Sunday evening and guests will be surfing the next morning.

After 10 days of surfing and cruising, Bohemian returns to Sibolga on Thursday morning, and guests are transferred to the airport for the flight to Medan. The final night of the holiday is at Danau Toba Hotel in Medan before flying to Singapore on Friday.

Holiday packages include accommodation in Medan after the trip, all airport transfers and 10 days/11 nights on Bohemian, including all meals and non-alcoholic drinks.
