Nomad Surf Resort, Sumbawa

The swells are biggest from April to October, but this south coast can get good waves all year round. Our resident surf guide is a serious surfer who knows the area and loves a barrel.

The resort has a classy, little-surfed left-hand point break peeling just 200 metres from the beach. On the other side of the channel, a mellow right hander is perfect for long boards and stand-up paddlers. A large hill protects both these breaks from westerly winds in the wet season, from November to February.

Some of Sumbawa's epic breaks are on the west coast, a short drive from the resort. Most reliable is Yo-Yos, a reef with two fast, fun rights that work at all tides on a 2-8ft swell.

With a swell over 8ft, Supersucks is a hardcore left-hand barrel - long, fast and powerful. Nearby is Scar Reef, a world-class left - long, fast, and tubing, at its best from 5-10ft or more. Other easily accessible breaks include Big Brother, Little Bingin, Benete and Donuts.

The restaurant offers a wide variety of Western and local dishes, a kids menu and freshly squeezed juices from our own garden. Enjoy a cool drink or a long night at the bar and terrace, with sea breezes and sea views.

Other facilities include a swimming pool, fully equipped gym, WiFi internet, massage room and a 9-hole golf course.

Non-surfers can charter a boat for snorkelling or fishing, rent a car for local tours or learn the secrets of Indonesian cuisine in a private cooking class.

Nomad Surf Resort is on the south-west coast of Sumbawa. The Standard Package includes a connecting flight from Bali's international airport to Mataram, Lombok. From there, guests are picked up by our air-conditioned mini van and driven to the east coast where they board a private fast boat to the port on Sumbawa. From there it's a scenic drive to the resort. Standard Packages are usually 7 or 14 nights, arriving and departing the resort on Sunday, but itineraries can be tailored to suit.

The Seaplane Package offers a much quicker, more convenient and more exciting transfer from Bali airport to the resort on Sumbawa. With a mimimum of six guests, a private seaplane charter takes just 45 minutes to fly from Bali to the west coast of Sumbawa, then it's a short drive direct to the resort. Overnight accommodation in Bali is arranged, depending on the arrival/departure times of international flights. The Seaplane Package gives guests nearly two full days extra surf time in Sumbawa, as well as two scenic flights over Bali and Lombok with thrilling views of the surf breaks and volcanoes. Seaplane packages are 7 or 14 nights, arriving and departing the resort on Sunday.
